Honor 5X worth to buy?

Written by TheCat. Posted in Gadgets, Sharing is Caring

It has been almost a month using honor 5x and it still give me a good impression. A RM899 mid-range smartphone with finger print, metal body, 2GB RAM, 13MP camera, Dual SIM and 5.5″ FullHD LCD really a valuable choice in Malaysia market now. With such specs SAMSUNG, SONY or LG will surely cost more than RM1k or maybe RM2k. But honor 5x still got a big competitor that is Redmi note 3 with almost identical specs but the price is slightly cheaper. Sadly its not available in Malaysia yet unless get it from third party website like 11street or lazada. Since I don’t have it lets not talk about. To do comparison I will compare it with all my 2GB RAM devices like HTC one M7 and ASUS Zenfone 5.

For me to choose a smartphone, my 1st requirement is the RAM. Honor 5X had 2GB of RAM and its powered by Snapdragon CPU and Adreno GPU which make this device powerful enough to play 3D games. I not a gamer but will still play some game to kill times. The game I tried is Need for Speed No Limit and Clash of Clan. Both game run smoothly and the graphic was superb as well. Just the Need for Speed take a while to load and will facing some lagging if the race was in raining scene.

Talking about playing games, Honor 5X is the 1st device that I did not feel any heat after an hour of game play. My HTC, Samsung, Sony or ASUS will heat-up like hell especially Samsung. Honor has done a great job on this with its premium feel metal body.

2nd Most important part of smartphone is the camera. Ever since the smartphone camera got 5MP I had throw away my camera already. Smartphone its the gadget always stick with me and the quality of the photos taken is comparable with many normal compact camera now or even better. So here I had used my HTC One and ASUS Zenfone 5 to do this camera testing. I’m not a pro in photo taking but hope this test will give you a rough idea the quality of the Honor 5X’s camera.

Comparison Between HTC One and Honor 5X

Auto Mode, photo was taken with windows light (Both look great to me)

HDR Mode, Slightly Cloudy (HTC One give higher contrast)

Indoor with yellow downlight (Honor 5X has brighter photo but HTC One has better color balance)

Shopping Mall Boutique Window Display (Honor 5X has better color balance and brightness)

Close-up and bokeh effect (Both has good close-up but HTC seem to have better brightness)

100% zoom (Honor 5X’s 13MP resolution its a sure win here :P)

Both look great

But after zoom Honor 5X’s 13MP resolution its a sure win ๐Ÿ˜›

Comparison Between ASUS Zenfone 5 and Honor 5X

From these samples photos, Honor 5X’s camera is much more better than Zenfone 5. Especially in the orange photo, zenfone 5 color is totally out (but the eggs photo, zenfone 5 look much more better) and Honor 5X has better wide angle lens than zenfone 5

Honor 5X’s camera got few interesting feature like Good Food, Beauty and Time-lapse. But I only interested with the good food mode. I dont like the beauty mode as it make me look like alien ๐Ÿ˜› As for time-lapse, I don’t have time for that yet ๐Ÿ˜€

The Honor 5X Good Food mode did make the food look better and more tastier

3rd is the battery life, so far the Honor 5X’s 3000mAh can last me about two days of normal used with Facebook, Instgram, calling, Whatsapp, Youtube and games. I think this is kinda normal, but I do had a bad experience with Samsung battery life ๐Ÿ™

While charging, I do notice 1 problem, that is it will auto shutdown itself while charging. This had been happen twice and it only happen when I try to charge my Honor 5x and the batter is less than 10% power. And there is one time the phone auto restart itself during charging.

As for the finger print, its a added advantage. But with the finger print it really give a new experience of using a smartphone. With your finger print you can unlock your phone easily and fast, launching favorite app, call your darling with just a touch instead scrolling the long long contact list and finally the best part that I really like about this finger print is privacy. If your wife want to check your phone, you can hide all your private photos or message which you don’t want to let your wife to see ๐Ÿ˜›

So for my conclusion Honor 5X is a worth phone to buy but will advice you guys to wait a while since the Redmi Note 3 is going to launch in Malaysia soon. You guys can compare with it before making the decision, but for me I will still go for Honor because my experience with EMUI is better than MIUI.

Honor 5x 1st Impression

Written by TheCat. Posted in Gadgets

This is 5th or 6th time I order mobile phones and accessories from vmall.my but this time really give me a surprise! The packaged arrived on the next day evening! Its really fast! As I experience before, normally it take more than 1 day to arrive since the package need to crossover the ocean. Well done to vmall and CityLink!

I was so excited and cant wait to open the package even my hands are busy with two little monsters. The blue honor box was pack nicely in the delivery box and wrap with bubble wrap and styrofoam.

The Honor blue box is very simple, nothing fancy and nothing much info beside the Honor logo and the phone serial no., IMEI no. and model name. Think this is how they cut some of the cost and the design can be applied to all honor models.

So what do we get for RM899 in the blue honor box? Of course a honor 5x, charging cable, 1A charging adapter (expecting 2A or fast charger), manual guide, warranty card and screen protector which had already applied on the LCD screen.

This 1A charger take around 3 hour to fully charge honor 5x’s 3000mAh battery. The charger design was slim and the earth pin is stretchable, this make the the charger easily pack for travelling.

On the back of the phone, there was a plastic protector with tips and notes and compartment labels. This is really thoughtful especially the tips and notes so the user will not accidentally spoil the handset and most user never go through the user manual before start using it.

Removing the back plastic protector, it was the shiny and elegant aluminum alloy metal casing which give tougher and premium feels. But sadly the top and the bottom of the housing was not metal but honor has paint it almost similar to metal alike.

At the bottom of the phone was the stereo speaker and micro USB port for charging and OTG. The speaker was great and loud. But I’m not sure its my handset’s left speaker was broken or its only a dummy. The left speaker hole totally had no sound, so if you covered the right speaker you basically hear nothing. Will further clarified with vmall.my.

On the right side is the power button and volume button. The power button was place almost at the center of the phone so it can be easily reach by your thumb even though you basically will not using it beside switch on or restart. Most the time you will just using the thumbprint scanner to unlock your phone.

On the left side is SIM card and SD card slots. You need a pin to eject the slot holder.

The SIM card and SD card holder. The main SIM card is using micro SIM while the secondary SIM is nano SIM. The SD card is share with the secondary SIM card holder. Apart from the SIM and SD card slots, the back of the phone is the 13MP camera and second-generation FPC rim-free touch fingerprint sensor. The honor fingerprint sensor is the reason why I bought it. The main 13MP camera had F2.0 wide aperture which allowed you to take photos in low light condition and 28mm wide angle lens allowed you to take group photos easily.

The 5.5 inches IPS LCD display with FullHD (1920 x 1080 resolution) is a great display for playing game as well as watching movies. The LCD also bright enough to view under the sun. Beside the LCD is a 10 point multi-touch screen and colour temperature can be adjust in the setting to suite your needs. The front camera is a 22mm wide angle 5MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture which is good enough for selfie or wefie.

That’s all my 1st impression on my Honor 5X, thanks for the reading and the further details like phone performance, battery life, camera quality and etc. will be in my next review. Stay tune ๐Ÿ˜€

Oh ya, lastly before I forgot, honor is the only brand that 1 know in Malaysia that provide 1 to 1 swap warranty within 180 days. This has made the honor a trust-able brand.

On 15 Jan 2015, XioaMi has announced their new flagship smartphone, Mi Note! What the main features that really attracted me was the 4GB RAM and the 13MP f2.0 camera, but this time the price tag was more expansive than expected but it still cheaper compare to Samsung and iPhone. Beside Samsung launching their new Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Sony also announced the new Xperia Z2, which is the direct successor to the Xperia Z1. With these two new Android smartphone, which one is much more better? Lets do some simple hardware comparison.

SPECSXperia Z2Galaxy S5

From the simple comparison above, its look like Sony Xperia Z2 has greater specs in RAM and camera. Don’t understand why Samsung only putting 2GB of RAM in the S5 while Note 3 already having 3GB of RAM.

Samsung New Galaxy S5

Written by TheCat. Posted in Gadgets, News

The wait is over, today Samsung has unveil their new Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. So what so whats is the different of this new S5 compare with the previous S series?

To make it easier for you, here is the comparison of the key specifications of the Galaxy S series:

From the specs above, Samsung has upgrade the S5 to USB3.0 from the conventional microUSB used in previous Galaxy S series. With USB3.0 the phone can have faster charging time and faster data transfer when it is connected to PC/Laptop.

Beside finger print reading like iPhone 5s or HTC One Max, Galaxy S5 has included a heart rate sensor on the backside of the device together with the camera LED flash.

But what really attract me is not the finger print recognizer or heart rate sensor, but it is the water resistance! That mean I no longer worried about water spilling while putting my phone on the dining table.
